The Mindful Consumer is an independent source of information and discussion about the importance of consumer choices on ourselves, our communities, and our earth. Mindful consumption involves making conscious and conscientious choices in everyday living. Shopping, eating, recycling, traveling, and all other parts of living are aspects to consider. Issues include fair trade, buying local, eco-clothing, energy efficiency, eco-tourism, organic gardening, and eating choices.
We are not people who meditate 12 hours a day on a mountaintop we rode a bike to from our wind-powered home in a macrobiotic commune. We are like most people – trying to find the right balance between the need to consume and our footprint on the earth and its future by doing so. We share one car – a 2009 Toyota Corolla (30 mpg). We keep our living space relatively cold in the winter and warm in the summer. We recycle everything possible, and more importantly, we are careful what we buy. Mindful consumption is about choices. We strive to help you make those choices through learning and discussion.
