About The Mindful Consumer

sara ron green festival 2012The Mindful Consumer is an independent source of information and discussion about the importance of consumer choices on ourselves, our communities, and our earth. Mindful consumption involves making conscious and conscientious choices in everyday living. Shopping, eating, recycling, traveling, and all other parts of living are aspects to consider. Issues include fair trade, buying local, eco-clothing, energy efficiency, eco-tourism, organic gardening, and eating choices.

We are not people who meditate 12 hours a day on a mountaintop we rode a bike to from our wind-powered home in a macrobiotic commune. We are like most people – trying to find the right balance between the need to consume and our footprint on the earth and its future by doing so. We share one car – a 2009 Toyota Corolla (30 mpg). We keep our living space relatively cold in the winter and warm in the summer. We recycle everything possible, and more importantly, we are careful what we buy. Mindful consumption is about choices. We strive to help you make those choices through learning and discussion.

  • Hello all,

I just wanted to tell you that think you have a fantastic site- very cool, I particularly liked the post on how green alternatives don’t need to be so overpriced. Absolutely agree, and enjoyed how you pointed out you could just make your own glass cleaner. Awesome, love the DIY stuff.

    Great stuff!

    Matt.

    Hi,

I’m helping to spread the word about a YouTube channel that’s focused on being green and I thought they’d be a great match to provide you for some content for your blog! There are new videos every week or two covering all kinds of content related to what you share. As you probably know, including videos in your posts has benefits like keeping visitors on your site for longer and providing interesting content for those who are more visual by nature. You also won’t need to worry about driving traffic away with external links since you can of course embed these right into your posts.

The YouTube channel is at http://www.youtube.com/GreenopolisTV and you can click on the yellow “Subscribe” button to be notified when a new video goes up (just be sure to select “Also email me for each new upload” to get an email from YouTube with a direct link the moment a new video is live).

I hope that you’ll find value in including some of our videos in your upcoming blog posts. Whether you write a blog post specifically about a topic shared in one of our videos, or already have a topic that simply relates in some way to a GreenopolisTV video, I’m sure your viewers will love the additional type of media that you’ll be providing them with!

If you have any questions, please let me know and otherwise here’s to helping the world get on track to a greener, more sustainable lifestyle!

    Thanks,
    Josh

Hey, I LOVE this site. It is right up my alley. You guys would love ozoshare.com. You should promote your site there! It is my nerve center for green issues and green technologies and things of that nature. Please go there and let folks know about your site.

  • Nice idea. Your blog is a wonderful attempt to spread the message of not only rationality abut also promoting the concept of moderated consumerism which is the need of the hour.
